What is your writing process like?
My writing process is simple. I write. Everyday I sit down and write until I have down about 3,000 words. Some days are prettier than others. On rare occasions I just can’t come up with anything new so I edit. That seems to get the words flowing again. I also like to think about what I write before I write. The best way to do this is just before I get out of bed I think about one of my characters and where I am with them in the story. I try to let them take over and guide me as to what they’ll do next. It’s almost like the characters are channeling through me.
Do you listen to music to enhance your writing?
I never listen to music while writing. The words get jumbled in with the words I’m trying to write – not a good thing.
What two songs best describe your overall body of work?
I’ve thought about this question for a long time. I can’t say any particular song for my overall body of work since my writing is varied, but for my current manuscript that I hope to be completed and ready for rewrites this week there are two – the first is Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo ‘Ole, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fahr069-fzE , and the second is Ride of the Valkyries by Richard Wagner, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGU1P6lBW6Q&featur
